Application Chat

Use application chat to message collaborators, mention users, share files and images, preview links and videos, and review application activity.

Application chat provides a shared conversation for each application. Users who have access to the application can review its activity, exchange messages, mention collaborators, share files and images, and preview supported links without leaving the Applications page.

Open an application chat

  1. Sign in to SpreadsheetWeb Hub and select Applications.
  2. Find the application that you want to discuss.
  3. Select Chat on the application card.

The chat opens in a panel on the right side of the page. A badge on the Chat button shows the number of unread messages for that application.

Review messages and application activity

The conversation combines messages from collaborators with application activity. Activity entries can identify events such as creating the application or starting a new transaction. This provides useful context when users discuss a recent application change.

Messages appear in chronological order with the sender, date, and time. Newly received content is identified in the conversation so you can return to the point where you left off.

Send a message and mention a collaborator

  1. Enter your message in Type your message here or drop an attachment file.
  2. To mention another user, enter @ and begin typing the user's name.
  3. Select the user from the suggestions that appear.
  4. Add an emoji when it helps clarify the tone of the message.
  5. Select Send.

Mentions make the intended recipient clear while keeping the conversation available to everyone who has access to the application.

Paste a supported URL into a message to create a preview card. A web-page preview can include the site name, page title, description, and a control for opening the destination.

YouTube links display a video preview in the conversation. Users can play the video within the chat panel or select Open original to open it on YouTube.

Share files and images

Attach a file by selecting the attachment control or by dragging the file into the message area. Shared file cards show the file name, format, and size. Users can download documents such as PDFs directly from the conversation.

Image attachments display a thumbnail and an expand control, making charts, screenshots, and other visual material easy to review.

Select the expand control on an image to open the media viewer. From the viewer, you can:

  • Use the previous and next controls to move between images shared in the conversation.
  • Check the counter to see which image is currently displayed.
  • Select Open original to view the source image.
  • Select Download to save the image.

Manage messages and unread conversations

Use the actions available on your messages and files when you need to edit or delete shared content. Other users with access to the application see an unread count on its Chat button when new messages arrive. They can select Chat to read the new content and continue the conversation.

Keep discussions in the chat for the relevant application so that messages, supporting files, and application activity remain together.
