Printing Visualizations (charts, maps, etc.)

Place SpreadsheetWeb charts or maps in PDF and Word documents by using an image placeholder, alt-text stub, visualization mapping, and Print Process.

Charts and maps can be inserted into Word or PDF output through a Print Process. The document template uses an image placeholder whose alternative text identifies the visualization that SpreadsheetWeb should render when the document is generated.

Create the image placeholder

Open the Word template and insert a temporary image where the chart or map should appear. Size and position the image for the intended document layout. The temporary image is only a placeholder; it will be replaced by the rendered visualization.

Open the image's alternative-text settings and enter a unique, meaningful stub name. Use a concise identifier that will be easy to recognize when configuring the Print Process. If the document contains several visualizations, give every placeholder a different alt-text value.

Map the stub to a visualization

  1. Open the application's Print Process configuration.
  2. Add or upload the Word template.
  3. Review the detected Document Stubs.
  4. Find the stub created from the placeholder image's alternative text.
  5. In the Visualization mapping, select the chart or map that should replace it.

The source visualization can come from any page in the application, including a page hidden from normal runtime navigation. This is useful when a chart exists specifically for reports and does not need to appear in the interactive interface.

Generate and verify the document

Add a button or another action control to the application and assign the event that runs the configured Print Process. Publish or preview the application, select the button, and generate the PDF or Word output.

Inspect the completed document rather than only the Designer preview. Verify that the visualization replaces the placeholder, preserves the expected data and filters, remains legible at the chosen size, and fits within the page margins. If labels are clipped or text is too small, adjust the placeholder dimensions or the visualization design and generate the document again.
