The Automated Application Creation tool in SpreadsheetWeb allows you to instantly convert an Excel model into a fully functional web application. The system analyzes your workbook, detects input and output areas, and builds an interactive interface that mirrors your spreadsheet layout.
Uploading the Excel File
Sign in to your SpreadsheetWeb account and navigate to the Applications page. Click Create New Application, then drag and drop your Excel file into the upload area. Once the file is uploaded, click Create Application and select Application (with UI) to begin building a web-based version of your model. After the upload, click the “Try It” button to launch the Automated Application Creation interface.
Defining Interface Elements
SpreadsheetWeb will process your file and display your Excel model along with the system’s autodetected interface components.
- Individual cells outlined in blue represent input or output controls that will become textboxes, dropdowns, or similar elements in the web app.
- Cell ranges outlined with borders represent tables that will be converted into grid controls.
If any inputs are missing, simply click the desired cell or range. A plus (+) icon will appear, select it to add that area to the user interface. The system automatically associates nearby label cells with input fields to maintain logical formatting.
Managing Worksheets
The left-hand panel lists all worksheets in your Excel file. Each worksheet can become a page (or tab) in your web application. You can choose which sheets to include in the user interface by checking or unchecking them.
Supporting or calculation worksheets can be left unchecked. They’ll still perform their functions behind the scenes without appearing in the app.
Publishing the Application
Once you finalize your selections, click Publish to generate the web application. You’ll be prompted to choose several options:
- Save User Data: Store user inputs in the system for future reference.
- Email Notifications: Decide whether you want to receive submissions by email.
- Styling Options: Select or keep default styles to define the look of your app.
After publishing, the system will provide a unique application URL that you can share with others.
